Special Education Teacher
3rd to 5th Grade (Near Syracuse, NY) This contract position offers a rewarding opportunity to support students in an Elementary Therapeutic Day Treatment Program focusing on 3rd through 5th graders with severe disabilities and mental health challenges. The program emphasizes a safe and supportive learning environment where, importantly, no students are considered violent. This role begins on September 2, 2025, through June 26, 2026, with the possibility of early involvement for professional development during the last week of August. Location & Schedule: Near Syracuse, NY Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:15 PM Approximately 35+ hours per week Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement specialized instructional plans tailored to students with severe disabilities and mental health needs Manage a caseload of up to 8 students, providing individualized support to foster academic and therapeutic growth Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary support team including a teachers aide, program aide, counselor, and nurse practitioner Maintain classroom safety and a positive, engaging therapeutic environment Document student progress and participate in team meetings to coordinate care and education plans Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching special education to elementary-aged children, particularly grades 3 through 5 Comfort and skill working with students presenting with complex mental health and disability challenges Strong collaboration and communication abilities to work effectively with support staff and families Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment Benefits of the Role: Comprehensive in-class support team to assist with therapeutic and educational needs Opportunity to impact the lives of students with significant challenges in a structured, team-driven setting Professional development opportunities prior to the start of the academic year If you are dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of students requiring specialized support and are comfortable working in a therapeutic educational setting, we encourage you to apply for this impactful teaching role.
