Special Education Teacher 3rd to 5th Grade (Near Syracuse, NY) This contract position offers an opportunity to specialize in a therapeutic day treatment program focused on students in grades 3 through 5 with severe disabilities and mental health challenges. The program maintains a supportive environment where student safety and well-being are prioritized, and no students are considered violent, countering common misconceptions about day treatment settings. Location: Elementary School near Syracuse, New York Duration: September 2, 2025 June 26, 2026 (with potential Professional Development/Training during the last week of August) Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:15 PM (35+ hours per week) Caseload: Maximum of 8 students Key Responsibilities: Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to the unique needs of students with severe disabilities and mental health challenges Collaborate with classroom support staff, including a teachers aide, program aide, counselor, and nurse practitioner, to address academic and therapeutic needs Implement and monitor behavior intervention plans and therapeutic strategies Maintain detailed documentation and progress reports on student development Utilize a person-centered approach to foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment Desired Qualifications: Valid Special Education teaching certification with experience in elementary education, specifically grades 3 through 5 Experience working with students who have severe disabilities and mental health needs preferred Strong communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams Ability to implement behavioral and therapeutic interventions effectively Benefits & Support: Dedicated classroom support staff to assist with student needs Opportunity to impact students in a nurturing and structured therapeutic program Professional Development and ongoing training opportunities before the school year begins Interested candidates who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply to support this unique and impactful educational program.
