OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSELThe Office of General Counsel is responsible for providing timely risk mitigation, management, and compliance advice to Earthjustice leadership, program teams, and staff. This includes areas such as corporate governance, contracts, conflicts, legal ethics, privacy, data management, corporate risk management, international compliance, lobbying, SLAPP suits, and human resources. We develop and implement cross-cutting strategies with our internal clients to help them achieve their goals while minimizing organizational risks. Additionally, we collaborate with partners and other nonprofit organizations on common sector issues.ABOUT USFounded in 1971, Earthjustice has a distinguished record of achieving significant environmental protections. We are here because the earth needs a good lawyer.We welcome law students nationwide to apply for summer law clerk positions. Students will work in an office near or within the program’s location. In some cases, clerks may work outside their geographic area but still within an Earthjustice office.RESPONSIBILITIESSummer law clerks will work with attorneys on case development and litigation strategy. Responsibilities include drafting pleadings and briefs, legal research, developing strategies and legal theories, gathering evidence, and attending client meetings and court proceedings. The program also offers seminars with attorneys and guest speakers on environmental issues, interactions with environmental groups, and a job interview workshop.COMPENSATIONEarthjustice offers paid summer law clerk positions. The stipend depends on external funding secured by students, such as law school summer funding. Earthjustice provides a one-time stipend of $1,320 per week at the start of the internship, minus any external funding and applicable taxes. The program is designed for a 10-week full-time commitment (37.5 hours/week). Students may seek outside funding, which will not influence the hiring decision.HOW TO APPLYApplicants must be enrolled in a U.S. law school through fall 2026 and available for ten weeks in summer 2026. Applicants must work from the U.S. during the internship.Interested candidates should submit their complete application via Jobvite by 5:00 pm PT on September 1, 2025.
