Charleston Collegiate School (CCS) is an independent day school that strives to recognize, nurture, and challenge each of its students. Organized as a Lower School (PK5), Middle School (68), and Upper School (912), CCS prides itself on being an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian, PK12th grade school located just outside Charlestons metropolitan area. The 1st Grade Long-Term Substitute Teacher at Charleston Collegiate School is responsible for maintaining a nurturing, structured, and engaging classroom environment during the teachers absence. This educator will follow established lesson plans, routines, and classroom expectations while bringing energy, creativity, and care to support students academic and social-emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities
Provide continuity of instruction by implementing the teachers plans in literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies.
Adapt lessons as needed to meet student needs, using developmentally appropriate strategies and classroom management techniques.
Support project-based learning activities and encourage creativity, exploration, and hands-on engagement.
Infuse CCSs valuesempathy, integrity, community, optimism, and advocacyinto classroom routines and student interactions.
Use the outdoor campus for learning experiences as appropriate.
Communicate clearly and positively with students, colleagues, and families to ensure consistency and support.
Foster a safe, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and collaboration.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and classroom activities for the returning teacher.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree (required)
Experience working with elementary-aged children; teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Ability to follow and adapt lesson plans
Familiarity with Google Suite
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Dependable, flexible, and able to maintain a positive presence in the classroom
Current in advanced first-aid training or equivalent preferred
